This page says what Sortello stores about you, why, and who else is involved. The short version: I keep what the service needs to work, nothing is sold, and you can take your data and leave at any time.
Sortello is run by me, Franz Geffke, a sole trader in Portugal. I'm responsible for your data here.
What I store
- Your name and email address, as your sign-in passes them to Sortello.
- The notes, tasks, tables, files and shares you create, or that Claude creates for you. Shares include the email addresses of the people you share with.
- Your time zone, so due dates and reminders land at the right time.
- Your ntfy topic, if you get reminders through ntfy.
- For each browser you turn notifications on in: the endpoint URL its push service issued, two keys that encrypt what Sortello sends to it, and a device name such as "Firefox on Linux". Deleted with the device, or with your account.
- A Stripe customer id, if you subscribe to Pro. Your card details stay with Stripe; Sortello never sees them.
Why I keep it
Your account and everything you put in Sortello, I keep to run the service you signed up for: that's the contract between us. Invoices and payment records, I keep because tax law requires them: that's a legal obligation.
Note history
Older versions of your notes are kept for 30 days on Free or a year on Pro, then deleted. The current version of a note always stays.
Logs
The server keeps logs with IP addresses for a short time, to deal with abuse and to find and fix problems.
Services Sortello uses
- Hosting: Hetzner, Germany (EU).
- Payments: Stripe.
- Error reports: Sentry. Reports are scrubbed of your content before they're sent.
- Browser notifications: the push service of your browser's maker, so Google for Chrome, Microsoft for Edge, Mozilla for Firefox, Apple for Safari. It sees that Sortello's server sent your device a message, when, how large it was, and my contact address in the signed token. It can't read the message: the content is encrypted to your browser. A reminder carries the task title, unless you turn on "Hide task titles in notifications" in Settings.
- ntfy, for anyone who would rather avoid those vendors. Same title rule.
- Sign-in: our account service.
Stripe and Sentry may process data in the US under the EU's standard contractual clauses.
When Claude reads or writes your Sortello data, that goes through your own Claude account, and Anthropic's terms apply there.
What I don't do
No ads, no tracking pixels, no analytics scripts. I don't sell your data, and I don't share it with anyone for marketing.
Your data, your call
You can export everything from Settings as one zip file, and delete your account there whenever you like. Deleting removes your data. Invoices and payment records are kept for as long as tax law requires.
You can ask to see, correct, delete or take your data, and object to how I use it. Write to support@gofranz.com.
If you think I've got it wrong, you can complain to the Portuguese data protection authority, CNPD (cnpd.pt).
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes too, and I'll tell you in the app or by email when it affects you.
